After reading and discussing Duncan's argument, I began thinking more about what was being said.
"Right from the start, some observers were already concerned that the museum ambience could change the meanings of the objects held, redefining them as works of art and narrowing their import simply by removing them from their original settings and obscuring their formal uses."
So why is art all of a sudden important after it is on exhibit in a museum?
How does it change?
Why does it change?
Art is just hyped up when put in a museum or maybe not. It doesn't change at all, just more prestigious. Like the guy who put a urinal in a museum and made all those people angry.
ReplyDeleteI think it is not the artwork itself that changes after it is on exhibit in a museum, it is only our perception of it.
ReplyDeleteIn a museum we really focus on artworks whereas in normal life we sometimes just walk by public art without noticing anything. To my mind that is what makes the difference because an artwork that gets the more attention is automatically more important.
