Designing a webpage is completely different amd much harder than I thought it would be. I never thought about the placement and links and pictures and videos and texts and EVERYTHING else that goes into making a website. It's amazing to think of how much work goes into making really complicated websites. Its almost an art that has to be mastered in order to make a wonderful website.
So far, our website is coming along very well. My group isnt presenting until Thursday, but there is not really more time since there is so much work and studying to do this week!!

Thanksgiving
I love this holiday!! My whole family comes together in one house (20+ people in one place). We all get together and make the meals while enjoying each others company.
Once the table is set, and people begin sitting down on thursday is when the true beauty shows. Everyone is happy, and the food and decorations are awesome!

The Placement of Art.
Why does it matter how art is displayed?
If all the art was on one wall, cramped, then it would not be presentable. This was shown at the High. The pieces were spread out and framed by the red walls.
Just think, what if all these pieces were hung slanted, not centered or placed neatly, then the High would not have a good reputation, and they would make the artwork look bad as well.

MOMA
The Museum of Modern Art's website is very unique for such a well known place. The home page is constantly changing information on their calendar, membership, visitors with disabilities, courses and internships, the architecture of modern kitchen, group visits, and much more information.
However, once you "explore" through the different galleries, you learn what is inside this place. They have exhibitions, films, multimedia, collections of art, photography, and more.
The website seems to draw you into the museum just enough to get you hooked, but you seem to not get enough out of this. This leaves you feeling like you MUST go visit the museum. (which is probably to purpose)

Mona Lisa
Do you think that the Mona Lisa would have been as famous if it wasn't at the Louve? What if she was at some other location. I personally do not think that this painting is very well. I like the history behind he portrait. However, I do not think that is it very good art, and probably does not deserve to be where it is.
But, people from all over the world come to Paris to see the Mona Lisa. And I am guilty of this as well. Why do we flock to these works of art in famous places?

Art in Museums
After reading and discussing Duncan's argument, I began thinking more about what was being said.
"Right from the start, some observers were already concerned that the museum ambience could change the meanings of the objects held, redefining them as works of art and narrowing their import simply by removing them from their original settings and obscuring their formal uses."
So why is art all of a sudden important after it is on exhibit in a museum?
How does it change?
Why does it change?

can anything be public art?
After our presentations, I began thinking about what is public art exactly. I know that we discussed this in class and the beginning of this topic; however this question as struck me again. Could computers in the library be art? Could a student's notes be art? Could a webpage be considered public art?
In my opinion, the answer to all of these questions in yes. They are available for many people to view, so yes they are public art. A webpage is defiantly public art because anyone can see this online resource, even though it isn't a physical piece of art.

Visual Essay
I really enjoyed watching everyones perceptions on public art. We had everything from trashcans and fences to the beauty of Georgia Tech. It was interesting also to see how people put their pictures together with different transitions, borders, and sound effects.
Making this visual essay was difficult for me; however, I did enjoy playing with the effects on my pictures. It took me a while to think of how to present my pictures. But after I realized that I could change the effects of the photos, making the essay wasnt too bad!

Picnik
As I have been working on my presentation, I have enjoyed playing around with the different features on picnik. It is fun to be able to change the colors, contrast, and everything else. It is a way to change art in a new way. I like to be able to have a boring photograph and spice it up with all the features.

PUBLIC ART
I am going to Chicago for Fall Break, and I will be visiting the Bean!!
Im planning on taking pictures of people interacting with the bean. I have been to Chicago several times before, and seen the different ways people use the bean. Once, there was a wedding party taking pictures. It was very beautiful. I love watching how different people look at the mirrored bean. Different angles of the bean give you different outlooks of yourself and the skyline of Chicago!
I cannot wait to visit Chicago and the bean soon!

Mirzoeff
Reading through this article, I never thought of how visual culture can affect things. The article mentions NATO and 9/11 and how people now portray these events because of how the media influenced us. Also, when speaking about the movie Saving Private Ryan, the director could have taken any perspective on how he wanted it to be shown.
Visual culture seems to be pretty interesting and I can't wait to hear other peers interests and comments in class tomorrow about it!

nike shoes!!
I have been trying to design new nike running shoes. And as I was proceeding with the process of trying different colors in different areas of the shoe, I felt like an artist. It was really fun to be able to make some insane designs and to be able to make the shoe how I wanted! In the end, I made then purple, black and white. They look really good and I cannot wait for them to be shipped to me!

Photographs
In today's class discussion about Barthes Camera Lucida, I really liked his point in the beginning on the second paragraph on the 6th part. "I see photographs everywhere, like everyone else, nowadays; they come from the world to me, without my asking; they are only "images." their mode of appearance is heterogeneous.
I think he is trying to point out that each image is not the same; however, they are still just images and not the real thing.
"I felt a kind of aversion toward then, even of irritation: there are moments when I detest Photographs"
Here, he his find himself not liking how photographs are not the real thing.
What do you guys feel about photographs?

I love Marilyn Monroe!
So, I'm officially writing my paper on an Andy Warhol Marilyn Monroe. And after researching her for the past days, I have become so inspired by her. She did not have anything handed to her; she worked hard for everything that she became. Andy Warhol's print of her is beautiful! I cannot wait for this paper to conclude itself so I can reflect more on her life and Andy's interpretation!

essay
Well, I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I can not figure out how to start my paper!
Any suggestions?
I want to make it a paper possibly on the the road less traveled and then obviously describing the art itself.

Mirror
"We are looking at a picture in which the painter is in turn looking out at us."(Michel Foucault)
What is a typical mirror to you?
After reading Las Meninas by Michel Foucault, I understand the meaning of the triangle of art more clearly. There are so many great quotes in this paper that I am going to post my favorites!!
- "the canvas has its back turned to that spectator"
- "the painter is turning his eyes towards us only in so far as we happen to occupy the same position as his subject"
- "Because we can see only that reverse side, we do not know who we are, or what we are doing. Seen or seeing? The painter is observing a place which, from moment to moment, never ceases to change its constant, its form, its face, its identity."
- "We are observing ourselves being observed by the painter, and we made visible to his eyes by the same light that enables us to see him."
- This one is more of an interesting quote. "In Dutch painting it was traditional for mirrors to play a duplicating role: they repeated the original contents of the picture, only inside an unreal, modified, contracted, concave space."
- "We must therefore pretend not to know who is to be reflected in the depths of the mirror, and interrogate that reflection in its own terms."

The Triangle of Art.
ART
ARTIST AUDIENCE
After class today, I kept thinking about the relationship between the artist/writer, reader/viewer, and art. This topic has come up now a few times in class and I think I am beginning to see the significance in it. First of all, an artist has to make the art. But for this to be art, someone has to see it; this is the viewer. However, if the viewer knows something about the artists, it can change the viewer’s perspective of the particular piece of art. The triangle can flow the opposite direction as well. The viewer has to be able to see the art for them to appreciate it as art. Also, the artist is possibly influenced by his/her viewer to make the piece of art.
Can there be a missing part in this triangle for the cycle to still flow?
Yes.
Sometimes there is no artist, but something is still art and people still consider it as art. Nature is a perfect example of this.
There also doesn’t necessarily have to be an audience. Sometimes just the artist considers the artwork art, and nobody else in the world ever sees the art. Emily Dickenson’s poems were like this until they were discovered after she died.
Also, there can be a relationship between the artist and audience without there being art. The viewer can know the background of the artist without seeing his/her art.

Defining Art
Berger and Sontag are constantly defining their version of art. “Art is dubious.” “Art is always figurative.” “Works of art are reproducible, they can, theoretically, be used by anybody.”
Why do they need to be defining art?
Art is always going to be debatable, and I don’t see the constant need to be trying to define on paper, “What is art?” There is no need. Art is just plain and simply art to whoever thinks it is.
I have actually heard only one definition of art in my life that I do agree with. “Anything that people discuss or argue over if something is art, then that something is art.” The definition is saying that anything that a person wants to be art is art.
A bridge can be art to an engineer. The David can be art to a sculptor. Sisterhood can be art to a family. A play in a basketball game can be art to a basketball fan. Art is everything and everywhere.

European Design
European Design at the High Museum
I went to the High with my mom today, and we decided to go to the European design exhibit because it was the last day! The first thing I noticed as I walked in was all the interesting furniture; for example, there were glass chairs, bronze chairs, copper furniture, and a snail shaped bookshelf. All the furniture was unique and truly art. The second floor had other amazingly designed artworks, and I wish I could have taken pictures of everything. The second floor reminded me of the store IKEA a lot! My favorite thing on this floor was a funky green brass and glass chandelier. Mickey Mouse was even incorporated into a chair; the back of the chair looked like Mickey’s head, and the feet of the chair were like Mickey’s shoes. The third floor was named Modern Design, and this was by far my favorite section of the exhibit. Right when we walked in my mom noticed a vacuum cleaner, and it surprised that someone would consider this art. But in way, I can see how it could be art. The vacuum was strangely designed and actually kind of cool. Maybe if I had that vacuum, I might want to vacuum! There was an awesome strobe light thing next to it that I also really enjoyed! The lamps on this floor were the perfect description of art. They included a hanging lamp that resembled a cloud, a massive white floor lamp, and a modern and traditional chandelier, which was a normal chandelier covered with a glass cylinder around it! My mom really like a couch that looked like a dog from a side view. To end our European design tour, we saw the lamp that was a gun and a knife holder, which was a human wooden head. Those two artworks were a little strange.
